What to see in Tongariro National Park
Tongariro National Park, the first national park based in New Zealand, is the largest tourist attraction of the North Island. His volcanic landscape served as the infamous Mordor in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. You will find several volcanoes and beautiful lagoons. The most beautiful places of the national park are accessible by several tourist circuits.
Emerald lakes

Perhaps the most famous view from the Tongariro Alpine Cross trek is the view from the Red Crater on three beautiful emerald lakes surrounded by a volcanic desert – Emerald lakes. These lakes are an ideal place to take a hike and enjoy their beauty. Ruapehu
The highest volcano in New Zealand
Ruapehu (2 797 m asl) is the highest volcano of New Zealand and the highest peak of the North Island. It is located in the south of Tongariro National Park. Ascent to this volcano is no longer the lightest and should only be used by experienced hikers. An unpredictable volcano
Mount Tongariro (1,967 m above sea level) looks a bit like Cinderella thanks to its „shot“ peak and the beautiful and taller neighbor Ngauruhoe. On the other hand, there are nice views from it and that is where the biggest attractions of the park are in its vicinity, such as Emerald Lakes, Red Crater and Blue Lake.
