The heart of the Hungarian motorway network is Budapest, from which protrude radially most important roads in the country:
- M1: connecting Budapest with the northwest (Vienna, Bratislava and Györ)
- M3: leads east to the Ukrainian and Romanian border and connects Budapest to Miskolc, Debrecen and Nyiregyhaza
- M7: leads to local „sea“ of Lake Balaton and on to Croatia
- M5 is the most important transit highway connecting the west and south of Europe
