The 50,000-strong city of Karapinar attracts visitors only thanks to an interesting volcanic field ten kilometers east of the city. Here you will find volcanic cones and especially colorful lakes full of minerals. You can take nice but short walks here and also swim in Lake Acigöl. It is a very interesting stop on the way between Cappadocia and Kona.

View of Meke Gölü

The biggest attraction in the volcanic field is Lake Meke Gölü with the volcanic cone Meke Dagi, which grows from it. From Karapinar, take the main road in the direction of Eregli and after seven kilometers turn onto the road leading directly to the lake (another approx. 2 km). The panoramic view from the edge of the crater is amazing

Shore Meke Gölü

From the parking lot down in the crater, head to the lake shore. However, its color and consistency suggest at first glance that this lake is not a bathing lake.

From the lake, it is worth climbing about 100 meters to the top of the volcano Meke Dagi (1,095 m above sea level) from where there is a nice view of both the lake and the surrounding slightly higher volcanoes.

Crater on Meke Dagi volcano

The whole thing is a bit like a sailor – a big crater in it a volcano and in that volcano another small crater

South view

To the south you can see both the beautiful islands in Lake Meke and the highest local volcano (1,285 m above sea level)

View of Karacedag

To the south lies the second interesting lake in this area Acigöl. Behind it rises the rocky pyramid of Mount Karacedag (1,935 m above sea level). At the top are the remains of an old fortress. If you would like to go there, you can count on a day trip.

View of the volcanic lake Acigöl

After visiting Lake Meke Gölü and its surroundings, return to the main road and continue for three kilometers, where there is another turn. This time to the emerald blue lake Acigöl

Turtle

After the gravel, you can drive directly to the lake. You just have to be careful not to cross the local turtles.

Acigöl

Acigöl, unlike Meke Gölü, is deep and with transparent water. It is therefore possible to take a bath here.
