There are a huge number of hiking marches in California. Routes around the wild Pacific coast and in the Sierra Nevada mountains are especially famous.

John Muir Trail: an epic California trekking route leading in the highest part of the Sierra Nevada on a 210 mile (338 km) route. It runs through Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, the wilderness of John Muir and Ansel Adams and ends in Yosemite National Park.

In all national parks you will receive a basic map of the area with marked hiking trails. Route marking is usually very good.
