In Central-Eastern California, approximately halfway between San Francisco and Las Vegas, lies Kings Canyon National Park between Yosemite National Park and Death Valley National Park. The park is famous for massive rocks, one of the deepest canyons in the USA, many caves and especially for the tallest trees in the world, the giant redwoods.

The park covers an area of 1,869 km2 and was founded in 1940. Part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range also falls under its protection, with a huge canyon 2,500 meters deep cutting into the granite massif on its hillside. The entire park was named after this unique canyon.

The park is adjacent to Sequioa National Park and is divided into two parts, Grant Grove and Cedar Grove

A smaller separate section is General Grant Grove, where groves of giant sequoias can be seen, making the area similar to the nearby Sequoia Park. Most of it extends around the Kings River and the San Joaquin River.

Most visitors head only to the more accessible smaller part of Grant Grove, where they are content to walk past the most massive trees in the world – giant sequoias and rush to neighboring more famous parks.
