Residence of Pasha of Marrakech
Just a few kilometers below the pass Tizi-n-Tichka is a road junction, where you can turn into the valley leading to interesting kasbahs Telouet and Anemiter and have a look at old Moroccan architecture. If you would like to continue along this small road even further into the valley Ounila perhaps even to the most famous kasbah in Morocco – Ait Benhaddou, you need to have off-road car. Otherwise you will have to return the same way back.
Fields at crossroads
The crossroad is at more than two thousand meters above sea level. There are fields situated around seasonal wadi and here and there are running donkeys.
The village of El Khemis
The road leads in the hillslope above the valley, so there are nice views from it, especially a short way before the village El Khemis, where the valley opens nicely.
Mountains south of the High Atlas
The ridge rising from the valley would probably not be bad for a short ascent. Views of the surrounding valleys and the main ridge of the High Atlas would definitely not be bad at all.
Local guide
Once you arrive in town Telouet (1 788m asl), it will certainly not take a long time before you will be taken up by a local „guide“ and guides you around the town. If there were not for the satellites, you could get the impression that you are still in times when the caravan route led through.
Nook in Telouet
All the buildings are made of local red stones and red clay, so they look very interesting. Unfortunately, a lot of buildings look very neglected and they gradually fall to ruins.
Castle in Telouet
Even from a distance looks local kasbah really massively (see the introductory photo of the photoreport). But from near you will unfortunately find out that the entire building is very damaged. If your guide gets the keys from the building, you can explore the interior.
Tour of kasbah
Inside, you will not feel very secure as the balconies you will be walking on do not look very steadily and they will definitely collapse soon.
Beautiful decoration
In some rooms you can feel the memory of a very influential person and one of the world's richest men of his time – pasha of Marrakech Thami El Glaoui also called Lord of Atlas, who owned the place. During his time it must have been here amazing.
In the palace
There is a beautiful decoration here from floor to ceiling. And from the window there is also an amazing view of the town.
View of Telouet
The view from the window over the fields to town is great.
The ruins of the palace
From the top you can see how the palace falls to ruins. It is a shame that this this monument was not repaired.
Moroccan courtyard from the top
The cattle huddled under the tarp below the castle enjoy shadow.
After visiting Telouet you can either go back to the main road or continue to kasbah Anemiter.
