A place where the earth really ends and the endless ocean begins

Cabo da Roca, place and arrival.

One likes to know the places that have some of the best, whether they are the largest, smallest, most distant or highest. Cabo da Roca also has one of the best. It is the westernmost tip of Portugal and thus of the entire European mainland. A picturesque place rising more than 100 meters above the Atlantic Ocean, which on the one hand attacks the cliffs below the cape and at the same time washes several romantic beaches, which are not so easy to access. Here really is „the earth ends and the sea begins.“ Don't be angry, but I simply had to use this sentence, which was written by the Portuguese poet Luís da Camoes, even though it is in virtually every guide and article about this protrusion. The cape is relatively easy to access, even if you do not have a car. If you are in the capital Lisbon or its surroundings, it is the best. By suburban train you can reach the final in Sintra (trains run from Rossio, Oriente and several other Lisbon stations) or the final in Cascais (trains from Caís de Sodré in Lisbon). Both of these terminals are connected by bus line number 403, which just goes to the mentioned lighthouse. One way will cost you up to € 6.50, depending on where you are going from. If you already have a card for public transport in Lisbon, all you have to do is top up your train and validate it before boarding, otherwise the card will cost you another 50 cents. It is better to buy in a vending machine, tickets are more expensive at the box office. Buses run from around 9 am to 7 pm at half-hour intervals. In addition to the lighthouse, there is also a small information center on the cape, where you can have a confirmation that you have been here for a fee. The large obelisk carved in stone that you really are in the westernmost part of the continent. From the lighthouse, several paths are trodden along the cliffs along the coast, you can also go to the beaches to the sea, but beware, it is not advisable to violate entry bans, a few people have already paid for it with the highest price. And then all you have to do is love and enjoy.

Cabo da Roca

You can go all the way to the deserted beaches, but with great caution and the vision of a strenuous climb back.
