Newly built monastery in a beautiful place above the Vltava
On the outskirts of the village Poličany 9 km north of Sedlčany stands a monastery of the Order of Trappists who came here from Italy. The whole monastery complex is very well integrated into the surrounding countryside, surrounded by meadows and forests. Only a narrow road leads to it from the adjacent village. In a place of honor on the land stands a statue of the patron saint, Our Lady of the Vltava, after which the monastery is named.
Monastery complex
In the large area of the monastery, you can especially feel the peace that many people crave today. The founders from Italy, the Czech Republic and Hungary moved here from a monastery in Italy. The community currently consists of 24 nurses, most of whom have a university degree. In 2018, the community became an abbey.
Guest house
Since 2007, the sisters have been running a guest house on the monastery grounds, where anyone who wants to share silence and prayer or just relax in peace and, so to speak, clear their heads can come. This is used by many people, both clergy and laity, who want to spend moments in seclusion, silence and prayer.
Shop with local products
The sisters in the local monastery live according to the order of St. Benedict, ie „ora et labora“ (pray and work). Members of the order earn a living by making original products. They grow fruit and vegetables in the garden and keep bees. They make cookies and chocolates, mustard, jams and marmalades, honey, oils, herbal teas and organic cosmetics. In addition, they write icons, draw pictures and wishes. Everything can be bought at a local store. In addition to the products of local sisters, it is possible to buy products of other monasteries from the Czech Republic, Italy and France.
