Beautiful views in the area of fjords
You can get to the Trolls' Path (Trollstigen) from the town Alesund by car on the roads E39 and E136 along the fjords. If the weather is nice, the views of steep mountains walls in the surroundings are unforgettable. However, it is probably a little short journey for one long day. Behind town Andalsnes you can continue straight on, bypass the fjord and ascend (on foot) to a beautiful scenic peak Randsetfjellet (525 m asl). After returning the same way to Andalsnes there is a turning left to the famous Trolls' Path that will take us in numerous switchbacks into the world of mountains.
Tresfjorden
This fjord on the way from Alesund must be completely bypassed. But these approx. 15 km are rewarded by many beautiful views of the surrounding mountains mirroring in deep waters. There was a road bridge construction over the fjord in the summer of 2014, so it will be a welcomed time saving during traveling, but also a pity for the beautiful views …
Romsdalsfjorden
Another fjord on the way to Andalsnes. It is occasionally worth to slow down and enjoy the view of the countryside around the fjord.
Isfjorden
During bypassing this fjord is nice view of the sea passenger ships that brought tourists to the port in Andalsnes. They then set out to the Trolls' Path.
Gjerdset Vatnet
There is a series of lakes in the mountain landscape around fjords. This is one of them. And again, just stop the car, get out and admire the beauty of nature.
Rodvenfjorden
Road no.64 takes us to the fjord Rodvenfjorden. We turn left around the camp Saltkjelsnes and at the next intersection to the right on a narrow road No.182. After about 6 km further away we get to the place Stanganeset with another small camp offering accommodation in cabins with traditional roof covered with grass. From there we can continue by walking along the northern coast of the peninsula.
On top of Randsetfjellet
After 1 km journey back from the place Stanganeset is a turning to the right onto a narrow path, which changes into the paved path after further approx. 2 km. There is also a small coin box, because the toll is paid further on. The paved path leads us to a small parking lot in the middle of the forest. From there we continue first on foot along wide, later on very narrow and later also steep path up to the summit of Randsetfjellet (525 m asl). From there is a fabulous view of the surrounding countryside.
Summit moors
The terrain at the top is in places quite muddy. You must be careful; the seemingly easy terrain is here quite treacherous.
Romsdalsfjorden
Another outlook at the top shows in the west direction the waters of Romsdalsfjorden and Sekken island on the right.
Old buildings
We choose the path from the top a little more passable, more gradual, albeit longer, on the southern slope of peak Randsetfjellet. Below the hill wait for us old abandoned buildings in traditional style.
Trollstigen
After a short but very nice hike we set off by car back to Andalsnes and from there to the left into the valley Isterdalen. Finally, there are known switchbacks of Trolls' Path in front of us.
Stigfossen
Down, before the road begins to overcome the rock massif, is a parking lot, from where is a nice view of the waterfall Stigfossen, over whose thundering waters span the bridge, along which we will soon pass.
Outlook terrace
Descent along the Trolls' Path is an experience for both driver and passengers. You can look back on to the entire path from the height of the panoramic terrace after conquering all the switchbacks.
Breitinden
It is possible to see from the terrace to the east of the mountain massif Breitinden and wild river Tverelva flowing from the lake Stigbotnvatnet.
Isterdalen
Trolls' Path, rising from the valley Isterdalen. The builders must have made a good job here.
Switchbacks
From the observation terrace are nicely visible the fierce waters of waterfall Stigfossen and road bridge, which we have recently looked at from the lower parking lot.
Camping
About 1.5 km from the tourist center, where is also mentioned observation terrace, we discover a suitable place for a tent. There is a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
Skarfjellenden
From the tents we look eastwards into the valley Alnesdalen, through which we will ascend to the top of Mannen tomorrow.
