Interesting places near Mikulov
If you often travel to the south of Europe or to the Alps and set off from the eastern part of the republic, passing through this city is usually inevitable. However, the road is led only by its edge, so you will stop here at the maximum Czech gas station. However, if you want to diversify your way south and have the opportunity, I recommend spending the night here, because watching the sunset from the Holy Hill is much more fun than driving on the highway.

The Janičův vrch quarry, also known as the flooded Quarry near Mariánské mlýn, is a natural monument and a flooded limestone quarry located just outside Mikulov in the immediate vicinity of Mariánské mlýn. The Protected Area with an area of 4.06 ha was declared by the Pálava Protected Landscape Area Administration on 1 May 2014. The reason for its declaration is the occurrence of water and wetland communities of flooded limestone quarries, rock communities on quarry walls, fragments of Pannonian steppe grasslands and paleontological sites. The flooded quarry is a popular natural swimming pool and in the season there is also a pub with refreshments.

It leads to the quarry via Sv. hill blue tourist sign directly from Mikulov, but you can get to it by road. The photo is from a lookout point above the quarry.
Quarry Janičův vrch
The quarry created on the site of the former Janič Hill has an elongated oval shape and at its bottom there is a natural lake, which was created here in 2005 after the end of mining. At that time, the transparency of the water reached up to six meters, but the spontaneous introduction of fish caused a reduction in transparency to 1.5 meters.

Svatý kopeček Nature Reserve was declared in 1946 on an area of 37.2 ha to protect the Jurassic limestone ridge above Mikulov. Svatý kopeček is one of the hills of Pavlovské vrchy with a height of 363 m. It forms together with the bell tower and the chapel of Sv. Šebestián is an important landscape landmark over Mikulov. The smaller chapel of St. Rosalie and the Chapel of St. Barbora is located behind these two dominants. The chapel of the Holy Sepulcher, vaulted with a dome, is on a hiking trail in the adjoining forest.

While it is storming in Lower Austria, we are enjoying the rainbow views and well-being pretty dry.

Such was the evening in Mikulov. Pleasant variety before the trip to Peilstein or another corner of Austria. There are plenty of places to sleep, only at the quarry it is forbidden. If you are considerate of nature and the environment, you will certainly not mind anyone.
