Hike to the dominant of the Krkonoše Mountains

One of the best tours in the Giant Mountains is a march from Pecka to the famous landmark Zvičina (671 m above sea level). Along the way you can also conquer another peak – Červený vrch (541m). You will enjoy beautiful views almost all the way, not only to the already mentioned Zvičina
Church of St. Bartholomew in Pec
The starting point of this tour is the town of Pecka. You can park, for example, near the rather magnificent church of St. Bartholomew

Through the valley of Lhotský brook to Staňkov
From the church, head east and after a while you will come across a blue tourist sign, which we will walk a few kilometers. From the beginning, we go through the valley of the Lhotský brook through the eastern suburbs of Pecka along a slightly busy road

In Stankova
The march from Pecka to Staňkov, about 2 km, is basically the least interesting part of the whole tour. Just in front of it, a view back to the Krkonoše lookout opens. The first ascent awaits you behind the village and in front of you is the first destination of this trip – Červený vrch with a transmitter

Above Stankov
With increasing meters, the views of the picturesque Krkonoše foothills open up nicely.

The first view of Zvičina
The road climbs into a small saddle from where the first view of Zvičina, the main destination of this tour, awaits you. Here, finally, the blue tourist sign leaves the road and only slowly climbs to the top of Červený vrch

Beautiful view of Peck
From the dirt road leading to the top of the hill there are really beautiful views wide into the region. But looking back at Peck is the best. For better photos, however, it wants to be here early in the morning than in the afternoon

Červený vrch (541m)
The hiking trail basically goes around the top of the hill a few meters, so if you want to go to the top, follow the path to the transmitter and a short distance from it is already the top pole. The Giant Mountains, including Sněžka, can be seen from the top

Ridge walk
Another half kilometer leads along a flat ridge with occasional views of both the Giant Mountains and down to Vidonice with a distinctive church of St. John the Baptist

Beautiful plateau meadow
The road disappears in the forest so that after less than 600 meters it appears on a large plateau meadow. According to mapy.cz, this locality is called U Studny. Here we leave the blue sign, which disappears back into the forest and set out on a beautiful dirt road through this meadow with a constant beautiful view of Zvičina.

Descent to Horní Brusnice
The path through the meadow is about two kilometers and it is a great part of the hike. Horní Brusnice itself stands at a crossroads and leads here to the top of Zvičina and a cycle path.

Exit from Horní Brusnice
In Horní Brusnice, we will connect to the red tourist path and at the same time to the Kostelní cesta nature trail. The ascent is only gradual at the beginning and along the way you will come across several places where it is possible to relax or read various attractions. You will end the first part of the ascent to Zvičina on a bridge over a stream with a nice statue of a waterman

Ascent to Zvičina
From the stream, the ascent is a bit steeper. Gradually you will pass a chapel and a shelter around which there are several educational and at the same time entertainment elements. Finally, the forest leaves and a view of the region opens up

Journey through Zvičinou
The hiking trail in the village of Zvičina connects to a narrow road and the last kilometer to the top is the busiest on the whole hike – cars, motorcycles, cyclists all want to get to the top

The top of Zvičina in sight
The actual top of Zvičina is very flat. You will find on it both the picturesque church of St. Jan Nepomucký, Rais's cottage with a lookout tower + two transmitters

View of the Giant Mountains from Zvičina
However, the beautiful view of the Giant Mountains is not from the top, but from a meadow not far from it

Top meadow
From the top meadow there is a distant view to the southwest

Church of St. Jan Nepomucký
Church of St. Jan Nepomucký in Zvičina is the main landmark of this important hill. You can take the way back to Pecka along the red hiking trail over the top of Vyšehrad and the village of Kal
