A trip to the Sýkornice nature park

Novopacké waterfalls can be found about four kilometers east of Nová Paka. It lies in the protected area of the Sýkornice Nature Park. It's a popular walk, but don't expect a big waterfall here. The place is nice, but apart from heavy rains or melting snow, there is only a stream of water. The most interesting here is in the winter, when there are huge icicles
View from Štikov
The beginning of this short tour is very simple. From the center of Nová Paka, we follow the red tourist trail, still up the street on May 3. After about a kilometer and a half of wandering through the buildings, we finally come to the top from where there is a view of the surrounding hills. It is in these places – in the narrow gap between Nová Paka and Štikov that the long-delayed bypass of Nová Paka is to lead, so I will soon look quite different

Well Elixir of Life
The road continues around the Štikov hotel and a short distance above the Štikvská ravine autocross racecourse. We enter the forest and a little further on at the beginning of the nature park is also the well Elixir of Life, where you can possibly add water.

Crossroads
About half a kilometer from the well is a crossroads, where we leave the red hiking trail and from there they are significantly happy to navigate. Sometimes there is an arrow on the tree in the direction of the waterfall, but if you are not here, it is definitely very good to watch a map application. Although we are in a nature park, bark wood is also harvested here

Cross on the edge of the forest
The path from the crossroads climbs to the highest point of this walk, about 525 meters above sea level. The hallmark on the edge of the forest is a hallmark that you are doing well. Next door is an educational board, so you can read what all lives here

View of Kozinec and Vrchovina
A little further on, the road leads along the edge of the forest and from here you can see the table mountain Kozinec (608 m above sea level) – the highest point of the district Jičín. The last buildings in the village of Vrchovina can be seen across the fields, which is the closest starting point to the waterfalls.

At the Novopacký waterfall
Finally, we are almost an hour's walk from the center of Nova Paka above the waterfalls. The trail leads quite high above the gorge. The main waterfall can then be carefully climbed along the well-trodden paths. The overhang itself is several meters high

Novopacké waterfalls in winter
In winter, the waterfalls probably have the greatest charm

An alternative way back through the prospect
If you do not want to go back exactly the same way and you want to enjoy still nice views of the Krkonoše foothills from the cross, go across the field in the direction of a distinctive tree with another cross. This goes, of course, if the road through the fields is feasible, it is several hundred meters. Here you will connect to a normal dirt road with a blue hiking trail

Well-being at the cross
There is also a bench by the cross, so an ideal place for a break and a snack associated with the views of the Giant Mountains.

View of Nova Paka
So we go back along the blue route. The road leads over the indistinct Hus Hill (492 m above sea level) and then begins to descend into the city

Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord and St. Nicholas
The path also leads around the most important monument in the vicinity of Nová Paka, around the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord and St. Nicholas. Unfortunately, it is behind the fence.

Return to Nová Paka
The circle closes with the descent back to Nová Paka
