If you want to experience a nice mountain road in the Salt Chamber or use it as a high starting point for a number of tours, be sure to try Postalmstraße. In addition, there are beautiful views of the Dachstein or more often of the Tennegebirge.

Postalmstraße

Postalmstraße is about 28 kilometers long and you can cross it by car / bike over a thousand meters. The highest point is the relatively indistinct Lienbachsattel saddle (1304 m). The start of the road is in Pichl / Volgau in the valley of the river Lammer just a few kilometers before the larger town of Abtenau on the B162. The destination is then in Strobl, located on Lake Wolfgangsee. The road is tolled. From the bridge over the river Lammer, it is about a kilometer to the place where you disconnect from the river and start to climb. After another two kilometers, the first beautiful views begin to open

View of the Tennengebirge

In these places, the dominant feature of the horizon is the Tennegebirge mountains – a massive limestone plateau with peaks at its edges. Of these places, the three huge protrusions Wieswand, Schwerwand and Rotwand will occupy

View of the Dachstein

As the meters increase, the view of the famous Dachstein with its glacier opens up. It is in the morning, but quite in the backlight, so for more interesting photos you have to be here in the early evening

View all the way to Watzman

Then several serpentines await you and a view for the gods will open up to you. You have the whole Lammer Valley in front of you

Cows on the road

There is already a toll booth just behind the lookout. Then the road disappears into the forest and is relatively uninteresting for another eight kilometers. The highest point of the Lienbachsattel road (1304 m) is also in this passage. Then the car parks and various starting points for hikes through the Postalm pastures begin. You will definitely not be surprised to meet cows on the road. Then the road descends sharply through eight serpentines to Lake Wolfgangsee
