Driving through the Col de Vergio pass
Corsica is not only wild mountains and beautiful beaches, but also breathtaking mountain roads. One of the most interesting is the D84 road starting in the seaside town of Porto and leading almost to the important inland city of Corte. The road also crosses the highest pass on a paved road in Corsica – Col de Vergio (1,478 m above sea level). Along the way you will enjoy unforgettable views of the Corsican Alps
Beach in Porto
The D84 starts just a short distance from the famous town of Porto with its beautiful beach and typical cliff tower
Red colored rocks
The road rises very quickly to the mountains. Red rocks are known in the Porto area
Views from the D84 road
It is about 35 kilometers from the sea to the pass. The higher you are, the more beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and rocks open up. Along the way is the nice town of Evisa, which is also worth a short tour
In the Col de Vergio pass
After about 40 minutes drive from Porto, you are in a relatively flat pass, where you will find an interesting statue and a fairly large parking lot.
View from Col de Vergio
From Col de Vergio you can take a short walk to the adjacent hill Capu di Vergio (1598 m) / just over a kilometer and a hundred meters /. More interesting, however, is a view on the other side of the top of Punta ae Cricche (2057 m)
Prospects at the exit from the pass
Wonderful views are also at the descent to the other side of the pass, including the famous mountain Paglia Orba (2525 m)
Ponte Altu
One of the biggest attractions of this route is the double bridge Ponte Alto
Viru river canyon
The bridges are just a short distance from the confluence of the two mountain rivers U Viru and Le Golo. You can also take a bath here. Really one of the most beautiful places around this road
Calaccuchia
It is only less than 5 kilometers from the bridge to the vast plateau with the town of Calaccuchia (820 m above sea level). From here you can also see the highest mountain in Corsica – Monte Cinto
Lake Calaccucia
Below the city is a large reservoir with a beautiful blue color
Scala di Santa Regina
After a comfortable ride on the plateau, the road suddenly disappears in the narrow gorge of Santa Regina. Its most famous part is called the Scala di Santa Regina
Road to Corte
A short distance behind the gorge, the D84 road ends. From here we head to Corte, 15 kilometers away, the starting point for other beautiful excursions
