Cabo Girão is a steep sea cliff about 9 km west of the center of Funchal, the capital of Madeira. The highest point of the cliff is 580 m above the ocean level. About one kilometer from the cliff it is possible to walk along the levada through the agricultural landscape of the village of Quinta Grande.

At the highest point of the cliff is a tourist lookout, from where you can see the town of Câmara de Lobos in the east and Funchal behind it. Other steep cliffs are to the west. Above the narrow fields on the ocean shore, we walk along the transparent bottom of the viewpoint. A typical place with many tourists and souvenir sellers.

Mysterious Island

From the viewpoint you can see the island of Deserta Grande, located 23 kilometers NE of Madeira. It is a nature reserve, to which access is allowed within 100 meters from the coast, or to designated areas of the island with a guide.

Road of Aviceiro

From the vantage point, we go north along the Estrada do Cabo Girão road, at the crossroads at the snack bar we turn sharply left onto Caminho do Aviceiro and descend sharply to the levada.

Levada do Norte

We continue over the valley after Levada do Norte, which is one of the largest and most important on the island, passing through much of the region. This beautiful stretch of Levada do Norte starts just below Cabo Girão and leads to the Boa Morte area in Ribeira Brava.

Campanario

Views of the south coast soon open to the west towards the village of Campanário. It is an agricultural landscape with houses of locals, which are often accessed just after the levee.

Miradouro Cruz da Caldeira

100 meters from the junction of Estrada Joao Goncalves Zarco, there is a view from which the Funchal area is in the palm of your hand. And it is possible to realize some of the culinary experience in the local restaurant.
