Or the city where Tatra was born
Kopřivnice is a town in the Moravian-Silesian Region known mainly for the production of Tatra cars. In Kopřivnice, however, you can find a large number of interesting places that are definitely worth a visit.
Tatra Technical Museum
The main attraction of Kopřivnice is definitely the Tatra Museum. The building seems very small, but is „charged“ by cars of this brand on several floors. There are cars, trucks and even airplanes. One of the great attractions is the original car used by Miroslav Zikmund and Jiří Hanzelka.
Still Tatra Museum
In addition to classic cars, there is also a wide range of special vehicles on display. In addition to the winning car of the Dakar Rally, we will also find various expedition specials here, or complete rarities such as rail cars or cars with skis.
The ruins of the castle Šostýn
If we turn away from the cars, above Kopřivnice are the ruins of the Šostýn castle from the 13th century. Throughout history, the castle has changed various owners, in 1404 it was burned down by the troops of Vladislav Jagiellonsky and in 1467 it is listed as desolate.
Sostyn Castle
The castle has preserved relatively large remains of walls, especially the residential part of the castle, Gothic portals and terrain irregularities. The castle is a popular place. The road to it leads from Kopřivnice swimming pool to the yellow tourist sign.
Bezruč's prospect
If you turn from the swimming pool to the right to the castle, to the left, you will come to Bezruč's lookout, where there is a wooden lookout tower, which has been rising above the town since 2012.
View from the lookout tower
Climbing the 45 steps will give you a view of the entire town of Kopřivnice, including the Tatra factory, as well as Bílá hora and the surrounding area.
Jásník's well
On the way to Bezruč's viewpoint, you will also meet Jásník's well. The well was made by the Czech Tourists Club, a singing association and the Union of Czech Officials in honor of a native of Kopřivnice, the poet Adolf Jasník. Today, however, water hardly flows from the pipe.
AutoMoto Museum
Going back to cars, the Tatra Museum is not the only place where you can enjoy historic vehicles. The second such place is the AutoMoto Museum, which focuses on old timer cars and motorcycles of famous and lesser-known brands from around the world. In addition to the above, there are also historic wheels and tractors. And as a bonus, you can sit in a local cafe overlooking the beautiful cars.
