They been there:

By Alpine standards, Zehnerkopf (2,611m) is not a very high mountain. However, it is definitely not the lowest peak within the Sesvenna mountain range (in this mountain range, only a few peaks are over 3,000 meters above sea level). The reason to climb this peak is for the incredible view of the beautiful lake Lago di Resia

Piz-Schöneben (2,100m)

The starting point of the hike is the final station of the Piz-Schöneben cable car (2,100m). You can get to the cable car if you turn towards Froi at the very northern end of Lago di Resia, in the town of Resia, but you don't go to this village and drive a little further along the lake to a gigantic parking lot, which is almost full of campers. The parking lot is paid, but when you buy a cable car ticket, you also open the gate for them, so it is included in the price. The cable car is definitely worth it here, otherwise you would have to climb 600 meters through the forest without a view.

Above the cable car

From the cable car, we will start to climb along the wide carriage road. Since it functions here as a ski resort in the winter, several lifts lead from the cable car. Outside the cable car building, there is also a large mountain hut where you can have lunch after the hike,

View of the Zehnerkopf

So our destination looks quite high above us so far and it can be seen that when we leave the comfortable world of the alpine meadow we will have a pretty steep climb up

View towards Reschen pass

Already at the beginning of the hike, there are such beautiful views of the valley towards the Reschen pass and Austria

Water tank for Ski Resort

Another interesting place at the beginning of the hike is the water reservoir for the snow cannons.

Above the tank

We continue along the wide road, but we can already see that we are finally approaching the edge of the rocks. The views of the reservoir are nice.

On the edge of the rocks

We slowly leave the world of meadows and finally the mountains begin – the peak still looks high above us, but not far away.

Views of Lago di Resia

Now the height meters are increasing rapidly and we finally have the famous view of the lake far below us.

Ascent to a small mountain valley

From here you can also see the continuation of the path. The main road after reaching the saddle continues straight through a small mountain valley. Our path then bends upwards to the top

Final output

The final climb is unexpectedly steep. Below you can see the main route, which climbs more slowly through the main valley

Peak cross

The summit cross encourages us to be active. We will finally be there :-)

Main view

You will remember the views of the lake for a long time. On such a wonderful day, there are views of hundreds of other peaks, both in Sesvenna and in the Ötztal Alps beyond the lake

More views

The dominant mountain to which you can continue is the Zwölferspitze (2,783m), which looks like a decent pyramid from here

The path along the crest

Now you have two options, either climb back down to the main path – or enjoy a slightly more challenging path along the ridge, which I recommend – if you don't have very small children or people suffering from vertigo with you, for example.
