Riviera Maya: The entire northeastern coast of the peninsula is called the Riviera Maya and here you will find the most beautiful Mexican beaches with white sand. It starts in the north with the island of Isla Mujeres, which is popular with both divers and snorkelers. Then there is the gigantic Cancun. To the south is the relatively sleepy resort of Puerto Morelos. It is followed by the second largest city on the Riviera del Playa del Carmen, from where a ferry departs to the island of Cozumel. The small resort of Akumal is pleasant. The Riviera then ends in Tulum, where there is not only a nice beach, but also a Mayan ruin. West coast: Nice, although less famous beaches are in the west, for example in Sabancuy North coast: here is the famous resort of Progreso located 35 km north of Merida.
