In the Giant Mountains you will find the highest mountain in the Czech Republic. In the „Czech top ten“ there are eight from Giant Mountains.

Mountain passes

Road mountain passes: in the far west of the Giant Mountains is the New World Pass (886 m above sea level), which separates this mountain range from the Jizera Mountains. An important road number 10 leads here. In the east, the road leads over a saddle near Pomezní bud (1,050 m above sea level). Slezské sedlo (Špindlerův Mlýn – Przcelecz Karkonska (1,198 m above sea level) is a road only from the Czech side. Tourist mountain passes: the most important tourist area is the Giant Saddle (1,390 m above sea level) located west of Sněžka.

The most valuable part of the Giant Mountains is the so-called arcto-alpine tundra. The plateau peat bogs are similar to those far away in northern Europe. The most important are Úpské and Pančavské.

Caves

There are also caves in the Giant Mountains. In the very east of the mountains near Horní Albeřice there are caves: Albeřická (with the largest underground lake in Bohemia), Krakonošova (inaccessible) and Celní. You can get information about the possibilities of the tour in the village of Horní Maršov

Lakes and Ponds

The largest lakes in the Giant Mountains: Labská Reservoir is the largest body of water right in the center of the Giant Mountains The most beautiful lakes: located on the Polish side of the mountains. Maly Staw and Wielki Staw remained as remnants of glacial activity.

Canyons and valleys

One of the longest rivers in Europe, the Elbe, springs in the Giant Mountains. The most interesting canyons include the Elbe Mine with the Elbe Gorge and the White Elbe Valley. On the Polish side is a fairytale gorge of the river Kamienczyk.

Glaciers

The landscape of the Giant Mountains is heavily modeled by glacier. In the ice age reached gigantic continental glacier across Poland to the northern slopes of the Giant Mountains. Nowadays, of course, there are no glaciers.

Rivers

Rock formations

Smaller rock formations on otherwise weathered and flat ridges are typical for the Krkonoše Mountains and also for the neighboring Jizera Mountains. The most famous such formations include / os west to east /: Svinské kameny, Tvarožník (with a unique border bollard at the top), Muž kameny, Dívčí kameny, Polední kameny (Polish Slonecznik), Pielgrzymy

Waterfalls

In the Giant Mountains you will find a wide variety of beautiful waterfalls. On the Czech side of the mountains is the most famous Mumlava waterfall. On the Polish side, then Kamieńczyk waterfall.
