In this area, virtually all roads lead through the high 5,000-meter passes crossing the Ladakh Mountains, separating the rest of Ladakh from the Nubra and Shyok areas. The most famous are Khardung la and Chang la. Furthermore, Wari la and the myth-ridden „motorized“ pass Marsimik la. The most beautiful road leads along the Nubra River into the interior of Indian Karakoram, but it is unfortunately closed to tourists.
