All car journeys around Madeira are subject to caution when driving. Roads are often narrow, with numerous bends and serpentines. Fallen rocks may roll on the roads After rains, the roads may be closed for a while after landslides. At higher altitudes, fog, rain, or even snow may come as a surprise (applies to the winter months).

Madeira is among a very safe destination. You must be careful when driving, especially in bad weather or during hikes around the famous levadas.
