- The center of the whole area is town Huaraz (3,065 m asl), which has more than one hundred thousand inhabitants and from where there is a very frequent bus connection to Lima. But the drive may take even more than ten hours.
- The minibuses depart from Huaraz to the surrounding towns, from where it is possible to set out on treks to the surrounding mountains.
