In Chiapas lies the partly jungle-covered ruins of Palenque, perhaps the most beautiful Mayan ruins ever. Also interesting, but significantly less visited are Yaxchilan on the border with Guatemala. Other interesting archeological sites are Bonampak and Tonina.
