Hobbiton is located near the town of Matamata on the North Island of New Zealand. In fact, it is a private farm on which the Hobbit was built especially for the filming of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, and today the town serves as a tourist attraction, which attracts lovers of these legendary trilogies from around the world.

Road to The Hobbit

Because Hobitín is on private land, a bus and a guide will take you here from the car park and you will have almost two hours to explore.

Hobbit houses

When director Peter Jackson was looking for the most suitable places for his new film, he flew over the surrounding landscape in a helicopter and was fascinated by Alexander's sheep farm, mainly due to the similarity of the description of the Region from JRR Tolkien's book. He had dozens of hobbit houses built here to make the film.

Life in the town

The whole town is maintained as if it really lived, for example, smoke is smoked from chimneys and tiny hobbit clothes hang on clotheslines.

Inside the houses

It is also possible to look into some houses.

Bottom Sack

At the top of the hill stands a house called ** Dno Pytle **, in which the main characters of both trilogies lived – ** Frodo Pytlík ** and ** Bilbo Pytlík **. Perhaps the most scenes were shot here, which is why there is often the biggest influx of tourists.

Visitation

Some fans of The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit may find it more convenient to go with a guide and learn a lot of interesting things from making the film, while others can freely browse without a guide. Both are possible.

The Green Dragon Inn

However, I recommend not to move too far from the guide, because at the end of the tour there is a visit to the pub ** Green Dragon **, where you can refresh yourself with a really great beer and one is included in the entrance fee.

Mill

Next to the lake is a beautiful water mill with a thatched roof and a beautiful stone bridge. Many visitors will remember the scene of a horse-drawn carriage crossing the Gandalf Bridge with Frodo.

Garden party

Right next to the Zelený Drak pub, there are many lanterns hanging, and kegs of beer are rolling here. Exactly, as if preparations for a garden party were just culminating.

Another hobbit burrow

Directly above the pond, other burrows peek out of the grassy hills, a small wooden pier stands on the shore, a small table with fishing rods next to it, vegetables grow in the gardens, you can walk on stilts and much more … Every minute of a two-hour visit can be used to the full, however, you will enjoy it best when you go on the first or last tour of the day, where there will be the fewest tourists in the Hobbiton.
