The town of Ella is picturesquely situated at the eastern end of the Sri Lankan Highlands. It is an ideal place for a 1–2 day stop combined with walks through the surrounding tea plantations or ascents to the local peaks. There is also a nice waterfall nearby. The city center is quite busy, accommodation facilities are spread over the surrounding slopes and are quite quiet. Famous are those from which there is a beautiful view of the Ella gorge
