There is probably no better known lake in Scotland and maybe in the world. It is a large 34 km, 1.5 km wide lake and 230 m deep. Its tourist center is Urquhart Castle. What made this lake famous is Nessie. The monster is mentioned as early as the 7th century, but it was most famous for its photographs from 1960. It triggered a hunting fever and a legend that made this place so famous.
