The windmills are one of the symbols of Holland and the place where most of them are in good condition is the small village of Kinderdijk. Thanks to its uniqueness, the system of 19 mills and canals has been included among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. All mills are fully functional and, like most mills in the Netherlands, were used to draw water from areas below sea level.
