Venice of the north
Bruges, a picturesque town perfect for romantic walks through the narrow streets over the bridges of the river canals that intersect the city, is about an hour's train ride west of the Belgian capital, Brussels.
Castle Kasteel de la Faille
On the way from the train station towards the city center you can not miss the picturesque castle Kasteel de la Faille, which has been located on the shores of Lake Minnewater since 1893. Dvůr Bekyní
The historic center of Brugg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, but so-called Flemish „béguinages“ were added there two years earlier. One of the preserved courtyards of the Bekyns can also be found here and it is a white-plastered house from the 17th to the 18th century, which currently belongs to the Benedictine convent. The space inside the courtyard, which is surrounded by Benedictine houses, is filled with a small lawn with planted trees and daffodils bloom in spring.
Belfry Tower
The most important tower in Bruges is 83 meters high and, among other things, also contains a carillon with 47 melodic bells. If you dare, you can climb the tower by 366 steps and watch the movements of the bells during the carillon. At the very top, your efforts will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Bruges and the surrounding area.
Main square -Grote markt
The main square below Belfry Tower is a frequent venue for many markets. Here you can sit in the garden of some of the pubs and taste the famous Belgian beers. The square plays with the colors of the surrounding houses and is always full of life and tourists.
City Hall and Basilica of the Holy Blood
Other important buildings in Bruges include the Gothic town hall, the so-called Stadhuis from the 14th century. and the Basilica of St. Blood (Basiliek van het Heilig Bloed), which can also be found in the square.
