The Agia Irini Aqueduct is an impressive structure that once played a vital role in the daily lives of local residents.

It was built during the Egyptian occupation (1830–1840), when the Egyptians discovered the ancient aqueduct at Knossos. They cleaned, restored and extended it, and built their own aqueduct in its place. When completed, it served to bring water from the Fountana spring to the center of Heraklion.

Today, thanks to its beautiful location in the middle of the forest, it is a pleasant place to stop, for example as a short stop after visiting Knossos.
