Season

Petr Liška Wrote 05.11.2015:

You can travel to Ladakh year round, but in winter there is a minimum of tourists. The best season for trekking is the end of August and beginning of September, when the glacial river have the lowest water level.

Petr Liška Wrote 05.11.2015:

Ladakh has always been known for sunshine and a dry climate, thanks to the monsoon shadow. In recent years, there is unfortunately much more unstable weather and increased rainfall.

Summer

Petr Liška Wrote 05.11.2015:

Beginning of summer – June, is also pleasant season for Ladakh. Desert mountains are still snow-teaser. At this time, however, do not count with some great treks, high pass are still under the snow.

Overcrowding

Petr Liška Wrote 05.11.2015:

There are more and more tourists in Ladakh every year, especially during the season, so when you arrive / arrive in Leh you will feel that there is not much left of the mystery of this former Buddhist kingdom. But don't panic, outside the main tourist places there are thousands of square kilometers of almost desolate landscape and semi-abandoned villages and monasteries. Leh, Thiksey, Hemis, Lamayuru: these are places where there are practically always crowds of tourists. The most famous monasteries are worth visiting as soon as possible in the morning before the travel agencies arrive. However, you just have to go a few hundred meters to the mountains and you will be alone with nice views of these sites. There are significantly fewer tourists everywhere else, especially in the western part of Ladakh. You can try what it's like to be here in the winter, when there is practically no animals
