The oldest fort in Delhi
Purana Qila = Old fort from the 16th century is located just a few hundred meters to the east of India Gate. Although it is not one of the biggest tourist blockbuster in Delhi – after all, not much of it is preserved, but even so it is still worth a visit. Worth seeing is certainly impressive western gateway Bara Darwaza, mosque Qila-i-Kuhna and interesting building of private Humayun's library.
West Gate - Bara Darwaza
The entrance to the fort is really impressive. Two massive bastions encircle the gateway made of a red stone.
The interior of the fort
The fort is situated at about 600×300 meters and it's now basically one big park.
The mosque Qila-i-Kuhna
The most interesting sight in the whole area of the fort is an old mosque Qila-i-Kuhna.
Interesting interior of the mosque
The interior of the mosque has a very nice decor.
Just a few meters next to the mosque is a nice Humayun's library.
If you go south, you come to less preserved Humayun's gate.
Very interesting are here the hoopoes looking around for some goodies.
If you have a little more time, you can go to the pool before the fort (in the northwest direction), where you can ride a pedal boat and take in the views of the walls of the fort.
