Maharashtra is the second most populous and third largest Indian state, located on the west coast of India. Its capital is Mumbai, the country's economic and cultural center. Maharashtra is known for its diverse landscape – from the coastal Konkan region to the inland plateaus of the Deccan Highlands. It plays a key role in Indian industry, agriculture and filmmaking (Bollywood). It is home to historical sites such as the Ellora and Ajanta caves, Maratha forts and national parks. The population speaks mainly Marathi.
