Mahatma Gandhi Museum and Former Jail
One of the two most important monuments in Pune is the beautiful Aga Khan Palace. It was built in the late 19th century for Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khans III. Today, the palace is a national memorial to Gandhi. There are also beautiful gardens around the palace.

Upon entering the grounds, you will notice that the palace looks more like a European castle than an Indian one, and that it was built in the style of Italian colonial architecture.

After you've seen the exteriors and the park, be sure to visit the museum inside. The Gandhi Museum displays his photographs, letters, personal belongings and quotes. The rooms where Gandhi and his wife stayed have been preserved in their original style.
