The heart of historic Meybod
In the center of the regional capital Meybod (1 100 m asl) /approx. 70 thsd in population/ stands the oldest Iranian castle Narin. It was built more than two thousand years ago and was the center of ancient Persian kingdom Mozaffari. Considering the fact that it is constructed only of mud bricks, it is very well preserved. From the outlook point on its roof is nice view of the surrounding old town, which gives the impression of a miniature of much bigger Yazd.
Majestic entrance to the castle
Fortified entrance to the castle looks very impressive.
Circle through the castle
Part of the castle circuit runs along the sidewalk. On the other hand, you can freely explore also various half-dark room and corridors, partially buried.
View from the roof
After you ascend to the top of the castle, a broad view of the surroundings opens. The guardians used to have from here view to all sides for more than 70 kilometers away, so there was always enough time to prepare for a possible attacker.
View of the old town Meybod
From underneath looks old town as arid as the surrounding desert, but from the top you can see that every house has at least a small nice green garden.
Historical air conditioning
Although not in such large numbers as in the neighboring Yazd, but also here you can see the historical conditioning towers, through which air in homes was cooled.

In the north direction is the view of the modern part of Meybod.
The castle from the outside
After seeing the castle it is worth to walk around the whole area and see it over the moat nowadays filled with fields. It can be seen that there was no need to bring construction material from afar.
Buildings in the historic district of Me
If you have a while, you can also explore the surroundings of the castle. There are some interesting buildings plus classic desert houses.
Historical stock
Near the castle is also a huge historic building of the stock.
Historical dovecote
The last interesting building in the surroundings of the castle is huge multilevel dovecote. Unfortunately, due to the military garrison nearby, it is not allowed to take pictures of it from outside, only from inside.
