A picturesque village in the Beskydy Mountains
About 15 km southeast of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, just a short distance from the border with Slovakia, is the picturesque village of Velké Karlovice, which has become a popular tourist destination over time.

Tourist information center
There are many historical monuments in Velké Karlovice, including the church of St. Linharta, town hall and wooden cottages. The village therefore became a popular place not only for tourists, but also for filmmakers. The series Doctor Martin and Policeman Topinka were filmed here. In the series, Velké Karlovice represented the striking village of Protějov.
If you want to learn more about Velké Karlovice, visit the tourist information center, which is located right in the center of the village in a log house with a cottage. The house dates from the middle of the 18th century and it is interesting that this building played the role of the local pharmacy in the Doctor Martin series.
Charles Museum
The museum is located in the center of the village in two ancient wooden houses. The museum has an exhibition dedicated to the local history and culture of Wallachia. He is also engaged in traditional crafts – woodworking, woodcarving, glassmaking. Both tools and works of art as well as household equipment are on display here.
In the series Doctor Martin, the building represented a police station.
Restaurant U Muzea
Directly opposite the information center is a popular restaurant, which also played the role of a restaurant in the TV series Doctor Martin and Warden Topinka.
Church of Our Lady of the Snows
The wooden baroque church of Our Lady of the Snows was built between 1752 and 1754. The church is unique in its architectural design. The floor plan of the church is a Greek cross, but a total of 24 angles can be seen in the building. A baroque turret with two bells rises above the center of the roof.
The church is protected as a cultural monument.
Rectory
Right next to the church, in building no. 274 locates the old parsonage. It is a very well-preserved building where the film crew filmed a number of scenes. The building played the role of Martin's surgery from the outside as well as from the inside.
Gallery of sculptures
In the southern part of the village called Pluskovec, there is an open-air gallery of wooden sculptures. The sculptures were created by local Wallachian carvers. The individual sculptures represent beekeeping, fishing, basket makers, wheelwrights, woodcutters and others.
Chapel of St. Hubert
The dominant feature of the gallery is the chapel of St. Hubert from 2014, which is dedicated to the patron saint of hunters. Inside the chapel is a carved wooden altar with scenes from the life of Saint Hubert.
Old wooden houses
Along the road in the south direction there are a number of authentic wooden houses, which are well maintained.
