Almost in the very south of Bolivia you will find the small town of Tupiza (2,970 m above sea level), which is the center of an interesting area nicknamed the Wild West of Bolivia. Here you will find beautiful red-colored rocks, wild canyons and large cacti. An ideal starting point for a number of nice hiking tours or horseback riding

Tupiza - Plaza Independencia

The center of Tupiza is a square and park in one of the Plaza Independencia. Here you will also find the most important monument of the city – the Cathedral. Through some streets you can see the local rock formations.

Heart of Jesus

The viewpoint just north of the city center is a little desolate Corazón de Jesús. However, the view of the surrounding rocks is very nice

One of the most popular trips from Tupiza is a hike to the valley quebrada Palala in the northwest of the town. You will see here an incredible number of different weathered rock towers rising above the wide rocky river bottom. A number of other smaller valleys turn from the valley, so there is countless number of possibilities for exploring the local area. Just be sure to take plenty of water and food with you as there will definitely not be any food stalls along the way. continue reading

Tube Sillar trek

A wilderness not far from Tupiza

Rating:
| Altitude: 4 040 m / 13 255 ft

You will definitely not find this beautiful hike over the Palala Valley in any Bolivian guide, yet it offers wonderful views of the rock town of El Sillar. In addition, you will experience a drop of adventure in a completely deserted landscape full of small canyons and weathered rock towers. If you set off lightly and have to return to Tupiza that day, set off very soon, so that you can return in the light. This tour is definitely not suitable for lonely tourists, if something happens to you you will not call. continue reading
