Twenty-five kilometers northwest of the city of Barka is an interesting peninsula Ras as Sawadi. In addition to swimming in the warm sea on the famous Suwadi Beach, you can take a boat trip to the nearby islands. On the largest of them is built a lookout tower with a really nice view.

Suwadi beach

From the newly built coastal highway, turn to Suwadi Beach near Sarimah. A long dead end still leads through the town of Suwadi al Batha before reaching the very end of the peninsula. There is a large free parking lot, a small palm promenade, a playground and businesses where you can eat or buy drinks.

View of the island of Suwadi

About half a kilometer from the beach, behind the shallow strait is the largest of the local islands and at the same time the main attraction of this place.

Fishermen on Suwadi

You will always find fishermen or waiters here for tourists who offer their transport services. There is a lot of bargaining here, because the first offers for a ride are quite out of reality.

Ferryman

We finally arranged a trip to the largest island, with the proviso that we will have about an hour and a half to explore. The ferryman brought us and then left with the understanding that he would return for us at the agreed time. You immediately feel like Robinson, alone on a desert island.

Harbor beach

Even the beach where the ferryman unloaded us is quite worth it. There is only one dilapidated building and a hose with water for irrigation. Apparently someone with the island had big plans that didn't quite work out.

View from the sand scythe

The most beautiful place for swimming with a great view is from a sandy scythe – especially at low tide. At high tide it disappears quite under water and the sea is no longer so warm

View back to the mainland

You can even „go“ to the mainland at low tide, when you have water up your shoulders, so in theory you don't even have to use the services of a ferryman. At high tide, however, waves rush across the strait and it can be relatively dangerous.

Stairs to heaven

It is definitely worthwhile to go up the stairs to the top of the island even in the heat of Oman. It is only about 65 altitude meters, but they can still work.

Prospects from the ascent

Just climb a few tens of meters and the view is starting to look great

Under the top

The destination of the trip is clear – the watchtower. However, it is possible to make far more turns to „barbecue / camping“ gazebos. A night under the sky would probably be worth it here

Peak

From the top you can see other small islands with mini beaches

The final path to the tower

The top of this island is surprisingly quite flat and a comfortable path through the trees irrigated by those underwater hoses will take you to the tower.

Top tower

The top tower is a beautiful new building – definitely built on the site of an old ruin. You won't understand – it's almost littered with garbage inside. In addition, it is quite dark there, so you will appreciate the light on your mobile phone.

The view from the top of the tower was definitely worth the effort
