Article Tour of Anaxos

The beach in Anaxos, with its 700 meters long, is one of the larger ones on Lesbos. Taverns and deck chairs are more in the outermost parts, so there is a relatively large free space in the middle of the beach.

From the northeastern end of the beach you can see a picturesque cliff on the other side. Unfortunately, it is disturbed in one place by an insensitively built new building.

Probably the only „attraction“ in Anaxos, apart from swimming, is the cliff with a mill. But it is not historically. However, this does not detract from photogenicity. From the tavern above it is also a beautiful view of the surroundings, so it pays to climb there. Especially at sunrise, the beach of Anaxos will be nicely lit.

There are two paths from the beach to the viewpoint. Classic along the road, or as you continue along the cliff, you will come across a staircase used by guests of the resort at the top of the hill. From the viewpoint there is a really amazing view of the whole bay.

The uninhabited island of Ag can also be seen from the viewpoint. Georgios overgrown with only a few trees. It is not the smallest, it has an area of 600×250 meters

In the distance, across another small island, you can see the typical panorama of Molyvos with a huge castle on a hill.

From the cliff you can see not only Anaxos and Molyvos in the distance, but also the closer Peter with its typical landmark – the church of Panagia Glikophilousa built on a solitary rock. The highest mountain of the island can be seen on the horizon – Lepetymnos (968 m above sea level).

Anaxos is actually a former agricultural village in a fertile valley below the mountains. Even local hotels by the beach do not have more than two floors, which contributes to the intimate atmosphere of this place. From the main road, only three narrow roads intertwine between the houses lead to the water. Another larger street lines its own coast.

At the northern end of the city there are also picturesque rock formations on a small ridge.
