Rock throne with a breathtaking view in the heart of the Jizera Mountains
About 5 km east of the town of Hejnice in the Jizera Mountains is a beautiful rocky viewpoint from the Paličník hill. This distinctive rocky viewpoint, rising to a height of 944 meters above the valleys of the Smědá and Hájený potok rivers, is rightly considered one of the most beautiful dominants of the Frýdlant Slope and the entire Jizera Mountains.
Rocky peak
The peak is located at an altitude of 944 meters, which is accessible by stone stairs and an observation platform secured by a railing.
Paličník is located in the Jizera Mountains Beech Forest National Nature Reserve, which is listed on the UNESCO list and whose steep slopes and primeval forests enhance the impression of wild, untamed nature.
A more challenging climb to the top
Once you reach the bottom of the rock, there is only a short but adrenaline-pumping climb ahead. The rock formation is accessible via ladders and a metal railing, which were installed back in 1902 to ensure the safety of visitors.
Observation deck
At the very top there is an observation platform with a typical wooden cross from which you will have a unique, circular view.

From the wooden cross on the observation platform, there is a wide view of the Smědá Valley and the most important peaks of the Jizera Mountains, for example the Jizera River on the opposite side, the neighboring Tišina peak and the rocky peaks of Frýdlantské cimbuří and Ořešník.
Access roads
Paličník offers several access options, which vary in length and difficulty. The most popular, but also the steepest, path over stones leads from the village of Bílý Potok pod Smrkem. If you have smaller children or an all-terrain stroller with you, choose the more comfortable but longer (about 11 km) route from Smědava.
