About 7.5 km northeast of the center of Liberec, in the heart of the Jizera Mountains, on a ridge near Bedřichova, lies a beautiful timbered building with an impressive history, which went down in history as the Presidential Chalet. This legendary mountain hut is a sought-after place, combining stylish accommodation, renowned gastronomy and an ideal location for an active holiday.

Location on the Jizera ridge

The Presidential Chalet is located on the ridge of the Jizera Mountains at an altitude of 822 m above sea level. It is located in close proximity to the popular Bedřichov, from where it is best accessed. It has a strategic location for all mountain lovers both in winter and summer.

A history full of twists and turns

The cottage opened to the public on June 23, 1929 as the Federal House of the Workers' Tourist Association. The magnificent timbered building was built thanks to hundreds of volunteer hours by the association's members. During the German occupation, it was expropriated and served as a convalescent home for children of the Third Reich. In 1956, the cottage was transferred to the Office of the President of the Republic and served as a recreational facility for the Castle's employees. It is from this period, when it belonged to „Mr. President“, that its current name, the Presidential Cottage, which is still used today, comes from. The cottage was reopened to the public only after 52 years, in 1991. Today, it is in the care of private operators and has undergone a complete renovation, which has restored its original timbered appearance and First Republic charm.
