Amazing view over Bariloche
Cerro Otto (1,405 m above sea level) is a magnificent observation mountain above the famous city of Bariloche in Argentina. Thanks to the cable car, it is also a very accessible peak. The view from the top is mainly of the huge Lake Nahuel Huapi and the surrounding mountains, including the mighty volcano Cerro Tronador (3,491 m above sea level)
From the ascent to Cerro Otto
If an absolutely beautiful day is done in Bariloche, there is nothing to wait and go to Cerro Otto immediately. The cable car station is more than 5 km from the center of Bariloche along Avenida de los Pioneros. So count on an hour of walking, or stop by a bus or taxi.
Huemul Island
If you are here early in the morning the cable car does not run yet, which has the advantage that you can be on top of the mountain alone and the disadvantage that you have to walk 550 meters above the footpath leading under the cable car.
Nahuel Huapi National Park
The footpath under the cable car is quite dusty, hell it's about 70 meters below the top – for that it goes down quickly :-). However, the views of Nahuel Huapi National Park are spectacular
View of the Tronador volcano
Far to the west rises the mighty volcano Tronador. The whole landscape of the national park offers countless beautiful tours to the glacial lakes
Crossing the entire Cerro Otto ridge
If you have more time, it is a much better option to cross this entire relatively short massif along the ridge. Along the way is a small ski resort Piedras Blancas, where of course it lives more in winter. In the middle of the ridge is also Refugio Berghof, where it is possible to stay. At the western end of the ridge is another interesting viewpoint Piedra de Habsburgo
