Walk along Route 23
The gravel road No.23 connects El Chalten with a port at Lake Desierto. You probably join to it just a short way below Hosteria El Pilar, if you went on a trip around Piedras Blancas and do not want to return the same way back. At least the first half of the trip is worth it – nice views of the river and surrounding mountains. The second half is relatively boring and it is better to try to hitchhike. If you fail, count altogether with 15 km and about three hours’ walks.
Glacial water
The beautiful color of the river certainly cannot deny its glacial origin.
At the confluence
After a half hour you approach the confluence of the rivers. There is also a bridge and path into a side valley to the farm Ricanor. Here is possible even horseback riding.
View towards Paso Marconi
Directly far west you can see deep into the valley of Rio Electrico, where leads the way to Marconi Pass and on to the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. The distinctive mountain in the center of the picture is Cerro 30 Aniversario (2 029 m asl).
Side valley of Rio del Bosque
After a while opens also the view of side valley of Bosque River. The landscape is harshly picturesque here.
Shallow valley
After the river confluence and about 5 km walk along the road turns the river sharply to the south to divert from the road after the next kilometer. Now the walk along endless boring plains begins to be boring and slow. But a car passes here and there, co you can try to hitchhike :-). But generally, it is an interesting walk.
