A small town with a picturesque castle
Wolkenstein is a small town with a famous castle situated on a high rocky promontory above the river Zschopau in the Saxon part of the Ore Mountains. Outside the castle, there is only a church and a small square to see
Castle view
The most famous view of the castle is from below from the river Zschopau. From here you can walk to the city, or save up the climb and go to the free car park just outside the city
Passage through the town hall
From the car park you climb along a marked path to the town hall, through which there is a passage to the main square Markt (there is already paid parking
Wolkenstein Markt
The square is small, quite picturesque, but the only major attraction here is probably only the town hall building
St. Bartholomew's Church
On the way to the castle you will come across a quite large St. Bartholomew's Church
Church and half-timbered house
The church is connected to a nice half-timbered house
Castle up close
The castle is nice even up close, although it looks much more photogenic from the river
Courtyard of Wolkenstein Castle
It is possible to sit here or visit the exhibition
View of the region
From the walls is a nice view of the region. 30–60 minutes will be enough for the whole tour of the town and the castle, so a pleasant stop when traveling in Saxony
