Altitude / mountain sickness
The great threat of altitude sickness is mainly near Gokya, Kala Pattharu, ie. at altitudes of over five thousand meters above sea level – as everywhere at these altitudes, it is important not to underestimate acclimatization!
Dangerous transportation
Small planes: Traveling to the Khumbu area means for almost everyone to embark on an adventurous flight to Lukla. Unfortunately, there were deaths here as well. For example, on April 25, 2010, a plane crashed on this route and all passengers died.
Threat of falling rocks
The Cho la Pass on the Three Saddles Trek is famous for the falls of rocks that have already claimed human sacrifice. The Tesi Lapcha Pass on the trek to the Rolwaling Valley is similarly notorious
Avalanches
The Khumbu Icefall is famous for its deadly avalanches. On April 18, 2014, an avalanche killed 16 Nepalese sherpas preparing for the climbers to make their way across the icefall. Even a large earthquake on April 25, 2014 sent an avalanche to the base camp under Everest, in which about 20 people died. However, these are places where a normal tourist will not come.
Khumbu is an absolutely safe area for tourists. Of course, this does not apply to dozens of climbers who have died here, thanks to the harsh natural conditions at extreme altitudes. The most dangerous place from this point of view is Khumbu Icefall.
Natural disasters
Fortunately, Khumbu is not famous for natural disasters. Of course, for example, the earthquake, which affected mainly other parts of Nepal, was affected by the fall of avalanches.
Diseases and health problems
The most common health problem you may encounter in Khumbu is altitude sickness.
