Skápadalur is one of the many beaches along the Patreksfjörður Fjord, which is the southernmost of the Western Fjords. The local attractions are numerous shipwrecks trapped on the beach or sunk in a fjord. The most famous is the shipwreck Garðar BA-64. The whole area was named after St. Patrick, who was the spiritual guide of Örlygur Hrappson, the original settler in the area.
