The Lón Valley is the valley of the glacial river Jökulsá á Lóni, whose 30 km wide estuary is framed by Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn, two distinctive granite massifs rising in the west and east. Central Jökulsá á Lóni is a typical glacial stream and its wide bed is intersected by intertwining springs, shallow and crystal clear in winter, dark in summer, massive and fast flowing, nourished by melting snow.
