It lies on the east coast of Scotland south of Aberdeen. The castle was built in the 7th century on a 50 meter high rock. It was rebuilt several times during its time. It was never conquered by sieges, thanks to the difficult terrain. The castle is famous mainly for hiding Scottish coronation jewels. In his last phase of life, he served as a prison.
