Panama is primarily a cash economy. You can only use credit cards in selected hotels, shops and restaurants. Although there is a decent number of ATMs in Panama City (the maximum withdrawal amount is $ 250), you will have trouble finding an ATM the further you travel from Panama City. So it is always good to have cash with you, especially small banknotes.
Local currency

The official currency in Panama is the Balboa (PAB), but the US dollar is used in parallel (respectively).
