Traveling around the island of Malta ## Transport Due to the fact that Malta is part of the British Commonwealth, you drive here on the left, in very heavy traffic on narrow paths lined with stone walls on both sides and the road is one pothole next to another. Therefore, I would not recommend renting a motorcycle or going here on a bike. ## Bus transport – by public transport For most of our people, it will probably be easiest to travel around the island by public transport by bus. The transport network is very dense, so you can get to all places on the island and for a decent price about 2Euro. Buses run several times a day and are used extensively by locals. The disadvantage may be that due to the relatively frequent traffic jams, especially in cities, the journey can take quite a few kilometers. On the other hand, you don't have to deal with parking in the city, which involves even 20 minutes of circling and finding a free spot. ## Car transport It is also possible to rent a car, which gives you some freedom to move around the island, but you must take into account the above-mentioned possible complications in the form of driving on the other hand and hectic traffic on narrow roads in poor condition. We liked this possibility, because we have experience with driving on the left after a year and a half of life in the UK, and we also needed to travel to remote places to sleep in the open. ## Transport by ferries Transport between the islands (Malta, Gozo and Comino) is provided by ferries, which run very often. To Gozo about once every 30–45 minutes (paid only on the way back).
