Centre of the desert
The town of Tabernas (400m asl) is located right in the middle of the desert in the small valley hemmed in between two low ridges. In the town itself is interesting perhaps only the church, so it is worth to ascend to the local ruins of the castle and enjoy interesting wide views of the surrounding wilderness.
Centre of Tabernas
The town of Tabernas is situated along the former main road (N340 now encircle it from the south), where you will find shops, restaurants etc. Small center is on the square with a small park and fountain at the church.
Ruins of castle in Tabernas
The biggest attraction is, however, the ruins on the hill above it. More than for the remains of the castle it is interesting for its very nice view. To the ruins lead the wide comfortable path from the sports ground on the north end of town.
Surroundings of Tabernas
You will feel here more like in Latin America rather than in Europe thanks to the surrounding countryside and simple low buildings in the suburbs.
Castillo de Tabernas
Nowadays, there are only ruins of the castle. Refurbished is only the tower, which is visible during the arrival to Tabernas and big gate, which is visible during the ascent.
View to the northwest
Very nice is the view to the northwest, where is another interesting tourist area.
The outlook of Tabernas
From the outlook of the town is nicely visible, how the town on the south is clamped by the ridge. On the horizon is visible also the main ridge of Sierra de Alhamilla.
Fort Bravo / Texas Hollywood
The closest movie studio is Fort Bravo, where you can make a trip if you're interested in westerns.
